About

The Jackson Metro Amateur Radio Club (JMARC) is one of the oldest ham radio clubs in Mississippi, established in 1949. Our motto is “shared knowledge makes stronger signals” in the hobby. JMARC activities are focused on hams sharing what they know with one another.

There are many areas of interest in amateur radio. Our club has great interest in helping the public through emergency operations and public service events. We are affiliated with the ARRL as a special service club. JMARC also participates in many other areas of the hobby as membership interests’ are the focal point of monthly club meetings and other special events. Our meetings feature presentations on building or modifying equipment, new ham radio activities, talks by members and non-members alike on things they have written about, and external presenters appearing by computer conferencing technology. Our focus is to share what we know to become better ham radio operators.

We welcome visitors and former members to our meetings. Those not yet licensed but interested in learning more about amateur radio are especially welcomed and assisted in their knowing more about the hobby.

Each year, our club sponsors the largest convention in Mississippi, called the Capital City Hamfest. It is held during late January or early February at the Trademart near I-20 in Jackson, MS. See the Hamfest page for specific details. The Trademart is a fully indoor space for the Capital City Hamfest which makes it weather independent for a mid-winter event. Vendors have told us it rivals the Huntsville Hamfest venue (Von Braun Center). It is the place where hams from the Mid-South get together to visit, learn things, buy things they may not have realized they needed, and engage in visual QSOs with others they may have only known via the airwaves.

The Club is managed by a set of officers with a set of At-Large Board members. JMARC appoints various Committee Chairs for Club activities. Our Bylaws specifying the scope, authority and terms are available at this link. The current set of Officers, Board Members, and appointed Committee Chairs are:
