President’s Post

Welcome to the new website for the Jackson Metro Amateur Radio Club. We have added “Metro” to our name to reflect the fact that our Club serves not only the city of Jackson, but also the surrounding towns and counties. I would like to thank Frank Howell, K4FMH, for his outstanding work in developing this new website.

In reviewing the website, it is amazing to see all the different areas of amateur radio in which one can become involved. Hams can talk to friends across the country, across the world or simply across town. Hams can get involved in emergency communications and public service events. Hams can experiment with their equipment and antennas, operate through repeaters or digitally using computers, operate Morse Code (cw) or low power (qrp), or contact satellites. There are many other exciting facets of amateur radio. I have been licensed for many years and there are many areas I still want to learn about.

Our club meetings offer you the opportunity to learn more about these different areas of amateur radio. To emphasize this, our new slogan is, “Shared Knowledge, Stronger Signals.” We have very informative programs each month. We invite all hams and others to our club meetings. We especially encourage those who are interested in becoming ham operators to come see us. We welcome the opportunity to guide and help you to obtain your license.

The Jackson Metro Amateur Radio Club is also pleased to be able to sponsor the Capital City Hamfest. This is the largest Hamfest in Mississippi and is held annually in Jackson in late January. In the next couple of months there will be much more about the next Hamfest on this website.

We hope to see you at our next club meeting on the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Red Cross building in Flowood.
